If God Says I Can Hear His Voice, Why Don't I?

Let me show you how you already hear God
and how you hold back.

Have you heard people say, “I heard God say . . . “

And you wonder Did they get hit in the head so hard they think they’re hearing from God? Or do they really hear God’s voice? They go on and on about things God told them. And what they say that God said seems to make sense.

So, if that’s true, if God’s talking to them, why isn’t God talking to me?

Have you ever wondered why God allows a certain thing to happen in your life?

When that happens, you can do what one of my favorite teachers of the moment, Arthur Burk, does. He says to God,

“Show me where I am in Scripture.”

As a Bible story comes to mind, Arthur studies it.

He compares his current situation to the Bible story and learns principles to live by instead of just getting the answer to his question.

That’s what God wants to do. In Jeremiah 33:3,

God says,

“Call to Me
and I will answer you,
and I will tell you great and mighty things,
which you do not know” (NLT).

I get it that you may think you’re not hearing from God.

But one of the ways God “speaks to us” is when we read the Bible (or any other book) and things “occur to us.”

We think it’s our own ideas.

But what if God is communicating with you
and you just don’t think to attribute it to Him?

Maybe you do hear God’s voice.

What if there is no such thing as a coincidence?

What if there are only God instances?
Maybe it’s God talking with you through
“your own thoughts.” ??‍♀️

Several of my friends say they can’t hear God.

Then we sit and listen together because the Bible says “where two or three gather in My name, I am there with them” (Matthew 18:20, NIV).

When we’ve done that, we often realize that my friend does hear God’s voice.

She just didn’t recognize that it was God talking to her until she specifically addressed her questions to Him and received answers.

So, here we are, you and I, gathered together on this page talking about hearing God. I’m going to dare to believe that those words of the Bible are true, that since the two of us are gathered in His name, that God is here with us.

Will you dare to partner your belief with me? Because your agreement is powerful!

Sometimes, we hold ourselves back
when we refuse to give God’s Word a chance
to prove itself as the Truth to us!

What if, instead of partnering with a lie like that,

we decide to come into agreement with what the Bible says about us.

The Bible says:

“My sheep hear My voice!”

And if you are His sheep,

look what God says about you. He says you (His sheep) hear his voice!

And if there is one thing that God can’t do, it’s lie. That’s what Numbers 23:19 says:

“God is not a man, so he does not lie.
He is not human, so he does not change his mind.
Has he ever spoken and failed to act?
Has he ever promised and not carried it through?” (NLT)

Nope. So, what does that mean?

If you are His sheep,
God says that you DO hear His voice. ☺️

So, if God says you hear God’s voice, why haven’t you?

A long time ago, God asked me not to defend Him. So, I’m not going to do that.

Instead, let’s just ask Him.

He knows your heart and if He sees a heart that wants to be in communication with Him, I promise that He will respond. Because here’s the thing, God wants to chat with you even more than you want to hear from Him!

Dear God,

If I’m Your sheep
and You say I hear Your voice,
why can’t I?

Please help me to
make time to listen,
to learn how to hear You
and to know for sure that it’s You!
